Another fun thing that happened yesterday was we found that the bottom of the clothes basket left outside had filled up with water, and one of the pieces of bread put out for the birds had found it’s way in. When we reached in to grab it out we found it was frozen solid – awesome! I’m sure our next move is obvious – we tipped it out, picked it up and smashed it on the concrete! It was really fun. It made a muffled shattering, tinkling sound and there were lots of big bits left over to smash again. The ice was so thick and really hard, like the glass we used to use for lead-lighting. It looked so cold even in the bright sunlight, and was so white and shiney in the thousands of broken pieces on the concrete. A much better way to get rid of the huge sheet of ice than letting it just melt slowly away.
