If you have an American Express credit card, then I’ve just found you your good deed for the day. Don’t panic, it’s free.
Basically American Express has this thing called a Membership Project, the final outcome of which is them awarding US$2.5million to be split between 5 projects for positive change submitted by Amex cardholders. They started with a pool of 1,190 projects, which has been narrowed down to just 25. Voting is now open for the final top 5 projects.
The cash will be awarded as follows
◊ $1,500,000 for the winning project
◊ $500,000 for the 2nd place project
◊ $300,000 for the 3rd place project
◊ $100,000 each for the two remaining finalist projects
Only Amex card holders can vote, so you guys have an obligation for all the rest of us who wish we could. So take a peek at the full list of finalists and choose one that you think could make a big difference with $1.5 million. The great thing is that even if your chosen project doesn’t win, you know the money with still be going to a worthwhile cause.
I heard about this because an organisation that I support made it into the top 5, and as I type this is in 2nd place. Their project is “Loans That Change Lives” and here’s why I think you should vote for it:
• The projects are split into 4 categories, and although “Loans That Change Lives” is listed under ‘Community Development’, I think it also directly affects two other categories – ‘Education’ and ‘Health’
• “Loans That Change Lives” is all about sustainability – this money will equip people with skills that will continue to benefit their communities in many ways.
• By its very nature “Loans That Change Lives” invloves individuals from all around the world, uniting people with an interest in helping men and women in developing countries who are working for the chance to improve their lives.
• With “Loans That Change Lives”, a little goes a long way and can make a huge difference to so many people. Co-founder and CEO of Kiva (the organisation responsible for “Loans That Change Lives”) Matt Flannery says
With your support, Kiva can turn a $1.5 million First Prize into $30 Million dollars in loans to 60,000 entrepreneurs around the world.
So even if “Loans That Change Lives” isn’t your chosen project, get in there and vote, Amex cardholders! You’ve got one week before voting closes to show that ya care ^ ~
